𗏴 is a Tangut character with the dictionary gloss “to mend.” In a message, read it with neighboring Tangut text; alone, it is better treated as a text or dictionary sample than as a full sentence. If it appears as an empty square, the font may lack Tangut support.

What 𗏴 means

The Tangut dictionary gloss for 𗏴 is “to mend.”

Li Fanwen’s Tangut dictionary gives that gloss in entry 2434, which the Unicode encoding record links to this character. It translates a Tangut word; the written form itself is not a picture of repair.

Read it with neighboring Tangut writing. By itself, one glyph does not give enough context for a full translation; if a sender expects a precise reading, ask for the surrounding line.

Why was the Tangut script created?

It gave Western Xia a state writing system for its own language.

The Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao commissioned scholars, including Yeli Renrong, to develop it. The script took shape as a state writing system in 1036. It served government administration and translations of Buddhist scriptures and Chinese classics, while giving Western Xia a written identity distinct from Han Chinese. Its block-like forms recall Chinese characters, but Tangut and Chinese are separate writing systems.

The Khitan and Jurchen states, other powers in the region, also sponsored scripts for their languages. Tangut may show Khitan influence, but a direct connection is debated; visual resemblance alone does not prove one. Western Xia fell in 1227, but Tangut writing continued: a multilingual inscription at Juyong Pass dates to 1345, and use is attested as late as 1502. Digital dictionaries and Tangut font tools let readers find and display the character.

Historical, dictionary, or font-study text; in casual chat it reads as a specialist sample.

If it appears as a blank box, your font or text renderer may lack Tangut support.

Why does 𗏴 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
