What 𗓍 means
𗓍 is a Tangut word for a turbulent current.
A Tangut dictionary glosses it as “turbulent (current)”: water moving roughly and irregularly.
The Tangut script was created by imperial order around 1036, under the first Western Xia emperor, for official and cultural use. It carried Buddhist writing and remained in use after the Mongol conquest; it was obsolete by the end of the Ming period. Surviving manuscripts and dictionaries preserve it for historical study.
Scholarly and historical; its natural setting is Tangut texts and dictionaries.
It is Tangut; do not read it as ordinary Chinese.

Questions people ask
2Is 𗓍 a Chinese character?
No. It belongs to Tangut, a distinct historical script. Its dense construction recalls Chinese writing, but the scripts record different languages and cannot be read as one another.
Why does 𗓍 show as a box?
A font-coverage problem. Your app's active font may lack this Tangut glyph. Noto Serif Tangut documents broad coverage for the Tangut block as of 2026, but display still depends on the font the app uses.
