What 𗗰 means
Its dictionary gloss is “a kind of grass.” Andrew West’s English index to Li Fanwen’s 2008 Tangut dictionary lists entry 0591 with this gloss; Unicode’s Tangut source data links 𗗰 to the same entry.
The Tangut script was created about 1036 under Western Xia emperor Li Yuanhao to support the state’s distinct identity. It carried official texts, literature, Buddhist scriptures, and translations. Its forms drew on Chinese and Khitan writing traditions but remained distinct. A book manuscript found at Khara-khoto, an archaeological site, probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century.
