If it arrives alone in a message, ask which text or source it came from before treating it as a reply.
Is Tangut 17675 an emoji?
No. It is a text character in the Tangut script.
Tangut writing was officially introduced in 1036, before the Western Xia state was formally established. The ruler Li Yuanhao commissioned it; scholar Yeli Renrong and others developed it for government and as a marker of Tangut political identity. Its design drew on Chinese writing, but Tangut is a separate script with its own characters.
Tangut texts include dictionaries, Buddhist translations, and Chinese classics found at Khara-Khoto. Tangut inscriptions also appear on Yuan and Ming monuments.
Archival writing; an isolated glyph needs its source or a translation.
