What 𗚱 means
It is glossed as “a kind of tree.” Li Fanwen’s Tangut-to-Chinese dictionary lists 𗚱 as entry 4229 and gives its reconstructed reading as lhja, also transcribed lha. These Latin forms are scholarly renderings of a historical reading, not an everyday pronunciation to assume.
Tangut is a distinct script developed under the Western Xia court around 1036, when Emperor Li Yuanhao ordered it as part of state-building. The project also served Buddhist translation and a distinct written identity alongside Song China. Tangut appeared in official, private, and religious texts.
Tangut writing continued after Mongol armies toppled Western Xia in 1227, especially in Yuan- and Ming-period Buddhist texts, but was obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty. Historical manuscripts arranged it in vertical columns; scholarly editions print it horizontally from left to right.
Historical and specialist; this character’s tree gloss comes from Tangut lexicography, not ordinary conversation.
Without Tangut context, pair it with the tree gloss; the character alone is hard to decode.
