Text symbol

What 𗞤 means

It is indexed as “seedling.”

A Tangut dictionary index lists this entry under that gloss; the surrounding Tangut text shows how the word functions in a passage.

Why does 𗞤 look Chinese?

Tangut has its own script, shaped partly by Chinese writing.

Around 1036, the Western Xia court commissioned the Tangut script as part of state-building. It was used for official work and a Buddhist canon in the Tangut language.

After Western Xia fell, Tangut continued into the Yuan and Ming periods before falling out of use. Its square design followed Chinese writing conventions and took inspiration from neighboring Khitan scripts, while remaining a distinct writing system.

Historical and academic: it belongs in Tangut-language or script-history contexts.

Its Chinese-style structure does not make it a Chinese character.

Why does 𗞤 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
