What 𗟬 means

Use a Tangut-specific input method. Tangut Cangjie is a documented keyboard option for entering Tangut characters. The device displaying the result also needs a font with Tangut coverage.

Tangut script was created around 1036 for Western Xia's official and cultural work, including government writing and Buddhist texts. After the state fell, the script continued in Yuan and Ming settings before becoming obsolete. Unicode preserves this older writing in digital text; it did not originate it.

What does 𗟬 mean?

Its documented identification gives a reconstructed reading, not a translation. A scholarly proposal records the reading in technical notation as li̯wẹ² and places 𗟬 in Homophones B at entry 51B44. Homophones B is a Tangut reference that groups characters by pronunciation. A different version, Homophones A, has a postface dated 1132.

A documented component analysis identifies 𘡫 as the left-hand part of 𗟬's written form, 𘦈 as the middle part, and 𘠢 as the right-hand part. Tangut components do not have fixed word definitions: a part can contribute sound or meaning differently across characters. This breakdown cannot translate 𗟬 on its own.

Historical and scholarly in tone; the character belongs to the Tangut writing tradition.

A square usually points to missing Tangut font coverage, not a different character.

How is 𗟬 read?

A scholarly reconstruction records li̯wẹ² as its reading. This is a reconstructed Tangut reading, not an English translation.

Why does 𗟬 appear as a square?

The selected font may lack Tangut coverage. The text can contain the intended character even when that font cannot draw it.

Can I work out the meaning from its components?

No. The parts show how the written form is analyzed; Tangut components do not each have a fixed word meaning. A Tangut lexicon or the surrounding passage is needed for a translation.
