What 𗟿 means
In Tangut, 𗟿 is glossed “slave” or “servant.”
Xixia, also called Western Xia, was a Tangut state. Its ruler Li Yuanhao ordered Yeli Renrong to devise the Xixia script in 1036. The script served government and translations of Chinese works, especially Buddhist scriptures. Its characters borrow structural conventions from Chinese writing, but the text is Tangut, not Chinese.
What happened to Tangut writing after 1227?
It continued after the Western Xia state fell in 1227.
Surviving Tangut texts include Buddhist scriptures, law codes, legal documents, primers and translations of Chinese works.
A stone pillar at Baoding preserves a Tangut dhāraṇī—a short Buddhist ritual formula—dated 1502.
Historical and specialist; read it as a Tangut lexical item in historical texts.
“Slave” is a historical gloss, not a respectful label for a living person.
