Tangut character 17825

2086/6136

𗠥 is a Tangut-script character whose entry in a Tangut–Chinese dictionary is glossed “net.” It belongs in Tangut text, quotation, or discussion of the script; standing alone in casual chat, it leaves the sender’s intent unclear. Its shape depends on Tangut font support.

What 𗠥 means

It is a Tangut character glossed as “net.”

Li Fanwen’s Tangut–Chinese dictionary lists it as entry 4534 and glosses it with the Chinese word 网, “net.” A gloss is a short translation: it gives the word’s meaning, not a picture of a fishing net or a general symbol for the web. Unicode’s inventory label identifies the encoded character but does not translate it.

The Tangut script was created in 1036 for official correspondence and Buddhist translation, and it gave Western Xia a distinct state identity. The earliest transmitted Tangut document is dated 1072; a Khara-khoto manuscript probably dates from the 12th or early 13th century. Tangut designers drew on neighboring Khitan models and Chinese writing principles without simply copying either system. After Western Xia fell in 1227, Tangut writing continued in Buddhist and monumental settings. A Tangut inscription at Baoding was erected in 1502.

What does 𗠥 mean when someone sends it alone?

Ask for context; it is not a standard chat reaction.

Without a Tangut quotation or discussion of the writing system, do not assume the sender means “net.” They may be showing a historical text example or checking whether the glyph displays; the character alone does not reveal which. If you need a reply, ask what text they meant.

Its dictionary gloss does not make it a standard shorthand for “net” in modern messages.

Historical and specialist; without Tangut context, a casual recipient may see an unexplained glyph.

Its dictionary gloss does not make it a general net or web symbol.
