It is a Tangut character glossed as “life.”
A 2008 dictionary of Tangut with Chinese equivalents lists it as entry 3614; its English gloss is “life.”
Why was the Tangut script created?
To support the Western Xia state, Buddhist texts, and Tangut identity.
The Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao ordered the script in 1036. Its forms drew on Chinese and Khitan writing traditions, but it was made for the Tangut language rather than derived from Chinese.
A manuscript fragment from the Khara-Khoto site, probably from the 12th or early 13th century, shows Tangut used for translated Chinese works. Tangut also carried Buddhist, Confucian, military, and literary texts.
A historical, specialist script; an isolated appearance may be a font check.
