What 𗦝 means

It names a family relationship.

Why was Tangut writing created?

It gave the Western Xia state a written form for Tangut.

In 1036, Li Yuanhao ordered it for state-building and Buddhist translation. It drew on Chinese writing principles and nearby Khitan scripts to express a separate Xixia identity, but was not derived from Chinese.

Tangut texts include Buddhist works, laws, translations, and literature. A Khara-khoto manuscript probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century. Everyday use of the Tangut language ended after the Mongol conquest in the 13th century; the latest known inscription dates to 1502.
