What 𗦞 means

Its historical reading is reconstructed; its English gloss is unsettled. Scholarly Tangut notation gives it as kjwɨ̣¹; this is a historical reconstruction, not a modern pronunciation guide. Tangut was the language of Western Xia.

Emperor Li Yuanhao ordered Tangut writing in 1036 for state-building; a Tangut Buddhist canon was a main aim. The script drew on Chinese writing without deriving from it, while neighboring Khitan script-making was a political precedent. Surviving books include Buddhist works and translations from Chinese and Tibetan.

Why does 𗦞 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
