What 𗩨 means
This character writes the Tangut word for “dog.”
The Tangut script, also known as Xixia, was created around 1036 under the first emperor of Western Xia, a kingdom in what is now northwestern China. It was used to write the Tangut language in official, private, and Buddhist texts. It continued under the Yuan and Ming dynasties, then became obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty. Scholars rediscovered it in the late 19th century and largely deciphered it in the early 20th century.
