Tangut Character 17BD3

3028/6136

𗯓 is a Tangut character, and “TANGUT IDEOGRAPH-17BD3” is its code-point label, not a translation or pronunciation. To learn what it says, consult a Tangut dictionary; the Unicode label alone cannot supply the reading.

Text symbol

What 𗯓 means

Most manuscripts tuck an inner part into the large left component.

A 2008 Tangut-Chinese dictionary prints the part beside it at full height. A 2023 Unicode glyph review compared both shapes with manuscript evidence.

When was Tangut writing created?

Around 1036, under Western Xia’s first emperor.

Li Yuanhao’s court devised the script to write Tangut. Writing continued after the kingdom fell, through the Yuan and into the early Ming; those are dates for the script, not for this character’s first appearance.

1

Why does 𗯓 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
