What 𗴞 means
Tangut dictionaries gloss it as “to revere.”
If someone sent it to you, read it as a Tangut word; the surrounding sentence supplies its role. The Unicode label identifies the character rather than translating it.
Where does 𗴞 come from?
It belongs to the Tangut script of Western Xia.
The script was developed around 1036 under Western Xia’s first emperor to write the Tangut language. Schools taught it; officials used it in records and sometimes in bilingual diplomacy, while Buddhist translators used it for scriptures from Chinese and Tibetan.
After Western Xia fell in 1227, Tangut writing continued under the Yuan and Ming dynasties; Buddhist inscriptions dated 1502 are among the latest known examples. Older texts used vertical columns running right to left; in modern digital practice, Tangut runs horizontally from left to right. Tangut may resemble Han writing, but it is a separate script.
