What 𗵦 means

Its Unicode label names the character, not its Tangut word. A dictionary entry or source text supplies its meaning and reading; the shape alone does not.

A Chinese historical account credits Western Xia emperor Li Yuanhao with starting Tangut writing in 1036 and official Yeli Renrong with developing it. The earliest surviving dated document is from 1072. Tangut is a separate script modeled on Chinese writing; scholars disagree on Khitan influence. After Western Xia fell in 1227, Buddhist use continued into the Ming period.
