What 𗾦 means
The dictionary gloss is “confused.”
Li Fanwen indexes 𗾦 as L2008-2759 in his Tangut–Chinese dictionary; its English index gives the word “confused.” Tangut writing was commissioned in 1036 by Li Yuanhao, ruler of the Western Xia (Tangut) kingdom, for state-building; compiling a Buddhist canon was one major aim. Surviving Tangut works include Buddhist translations from Chinese and Tibetan as well as secular writing. One manuscript fragment probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century. After the Mongol conquest in the 13th century, Tangut fell out of daily use.
Why does 𗾦 show as a box?
The font is missing a Tangut glyph.
In a browser setup described in 2025, a Tangut web font can supply the character; other apps need a Tangut-capable system font. A box or replacement mark changes the display, not the underlying text.
Someone sent me 𗾦—what should I do?
Ask for context before reading it as a personal message.
The dictionary's word gloss does not tell you what the sender feels or intends. If the character arrives alone, ask for the surrounding Tangut text or a translation.
Specialist and historical: use it in Tangut texts, script study, or font and input testing.
The “confused” gloss is not a reliable message about the sender's mood.

1Why does 𗾦 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
