What 𘇝 means
A Tangut dictionary gives “two” as its basic gloss.
That is a word-level gloss, not a translation of a whole sentence; surrounding text determines the character’s exact role in a passage.
Why does 𘇝 look like Chinese writing?
Tangut signs echo Chinese writing but form a separate script.
The script was devised around 1036 under Li Yuanhao, Western Xia’s first emperor, to write Tangut. Western Xia was a Tangut-led state in what is now northwestern China. Its recorded written use spans 1036–1502, beyond the state’s fall. This glyph belongs to Tangut, not Chinese.
How do I type 𘇝?
Use a Tangut input method and a font with Tangut coverage.
Rime Xunpin’s guide, checked in 2026, lists three routes: phonetic input using a reconstructed Tangut form written in Latin letters, stroke entry, and four-corner codes that identify a character by its shape. These are specialist Tangut methods, not a standard Chinese keyboard layout.
If the character shows as a box or fallback glyph, check font coverage before assuming the text is corrupted.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘇝 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
