What 𘇻 means
𘇻 is a Tangut kinship word meaning “brother.”
The Tangut reading mju is a scholarly reconstruction. A Tangut household register—a record of families and residents—uses 𘇻 for a woman's brothers; “maternal uncle” is another gloss. In that record, “brother” is the clearest short translation.
The Tangut script was created under the first Western Xia emperor around 1036 for state-building, Buddhist-canon work, and a written identity distinct from Song China. It remained in Buddhist, official, and private documents after Western Xia fell. As of 2026, readers encounter Tangut chiefly in historical records and scholarly dictionaries.
Why can 𘇻 appear as a blank box?
Your font may not include Tangut glyphs.
Unicode encodes 𘇻 as one character, but Tangut fonts can draw its form differently. Choose a font that includes Tangut; a blank box means the renderer has no glyph to show. It does not give the character a different reading.

“Tangut Character 181FB” identifies the character; it is not an English translation.
