Text symbol

What 𘊹 means

It is a Tangut word glossed as “plough.”

Li Fanwen’s Tangut dictionary index records its scholarly reading as kja̱ and glosses it with 犁, the Chinese word for “plough.” The transcription records a Tangut reading; it is not an English pronunciation guide. The character itself belongs to Tangut, while 犁 is the Chinese gloss.

Unicode’s structure notation writes its build as 𘦌𘦜: one component on the left and one on the right. That notation describes construction, not a two-character phrase.

Where did Tangut writing come from?

It was created for the Western Xia state around 1036.

Tangut writing recorded the Tangut language in administration, law, diplomacy, Buddhist translations, dictionaries, and original works. In its historical setting, it was written vertically from right to left.

Use continued after Western Xia fell in 1227; the latest known Tangut text is dated 1502.

Why does 𘊹 look wrong?

Font support determines how this text character appears.

Unicode’s reference shape is not mandatory for every font. A font without Tangut coverage may show an empty box or fallback character, and another Tangut font may draw the same character differently.

Historical and specialist; meaningful in Tangut text or Unicode work, opaque without that context.

Ask for its source before reading it as a reply or reaction.

Why is 𘊹 a box on my screen?

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
