What 𘋀 means
Its English meaning is unsettled. A Tangut dictionary files it as L3854; scholars reconstruct the pronunciation of 𘋀 as gjur², ²gur₄, or ngi̯ụ². These specialist spellings are sound proposals, not translations. As of 2026, no English translation is settled.
Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao commissioned the Tangut script in 1036 to support state-building and translate Buddhist texts. It drew on Chinese forms and structure but remained distinct; Western Xia followed neighboring Khitan states' example of creating scripts. A 12th-century text discusses Tangut pronunciation; 12th- or early-13th-century Khara-khoto manuscripts preserve Buddhist and secular works.

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
