What 𘑇 means
The catalog label identifies the character, not its Tangut word.
To read it as a word, use a Tangut dictionary or the surrounding passage; the character's shape alone does not provide a translation.
Western Xia's first emperor sponsored the planned Tangut script around 1036 CE as a national writing system. It served state relations with the Song, Liao, and Jin dynasties and Tibetan and Uyghur communities, and carried translations of Chinese classics and Buddhist texts.
Tangut writing continued after Western Xia fell in 1227, under Yuan and Ming rule. Buddhist editions from 1247 and the 1302 canon show the script in religious printing after the state ended.
Is 𘑇 Chinese?
No. Tangut is a distinct script, though its design drew on Chinese writing conventions.
Tangut and Chinese can share an ideographic look and vertical writing direction, but a Chinese reader cannot infer this character's pronunciation or meaning from its shape.
Historically used for formal state and religious texts; in a message, it reads as specialist Tangut script.
Do not guess a Chinese reading from its shape; use Tangut context.
