What 𘑷 means
A Tangut dictionary glosses it as “he.”
The gloss is an English translation of a pronoun in the extinct Tangut language. It gives the meaning, not a Mandarin reading.
If someone sends 𘑷 alone, read it as a fragment of historical Tangut text. The single character gives its gloss, but not who “he” refers to.
when was Tangut script used?
It served Western Xia, then remained in use after the state fell.
The Tangut script was promulgated in 1036, before Western Xia was formally founded in 1038. The court used it for official records and diplomacy with neighboring states, sometimes in documents written in both languages.
Tangut Buddhist scriptures were printed from carved wooden blocks. After the dynasty fell in 1227, the script continued to appear in writing: a pair of stone pillars bearing Buddhist ritual texts in Tangut was erected in 1502. The script moved from government and religious writing into the historical record preserved by scholarship and digital editions.
Scholarly and archival in tone; a standalone message reads as historical Tangut text.
“He” is the English gloss, not a pronunciation.
