What 𘓉 means
It means “to herd” or “put animals out to graze.”
𘓉 is the Tangut word for herding. Tangut was the language of the medieval Western Xia kingdom; scholarly reconstruction transcribes its reading as ¹lhew₁.
In 1036, Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao ordered the Tangut script as a state-building project. It carried Buddhist scriptures, translations from Chinese and Tibetan, classics, military texts, and literature.
Someone sent me 𘓉. What does it mean?
Read it as a Tangut word, not an emoji.
On its own, 𘓉 gives the lexical idea “herd”; it does not tell you why the sender chose it. Ask for context before reading an emotion, joke, or hidden message into an unfamiliar historical word.
Why does 𘓉 look blank?
Your font may lack Tangut coverage.
The active font draws this text character. Without Tangut support, an app may show a blank box or replacement mark; another font can change its appearance without changing the character.
Outside Tangut or historical discussion, it can read as deliberately obscure.
Without Tangut context, a recipient may see a rare glyph rather than a readable message.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘓉 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
