What 𘙬 means
Its meaning depends on the Tangut word and sentence around it.
The Xixia script, also called Tangut, was created around 1036 under Western Xia's first emperor. It helped distinguish the kingdom's written culture from Song China. Visually inspired by Chinese writing, it followed the earlier Khitan script while remaining separate. A surviving manuscript discussed by University of Hamburg researchers probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century.
After Western Xia fell, Tangut writing continued under Yuan and Ming rule; it was obsolete by the end of the Ming period.
