What ༮ means
Unicode’s convention reads ༮ as 4½. At a number’s end, ༤༮ means 44.5.
Older readings differ: a 2008 Unicode proposal read the slash as halving the marked value; a 2000 account describes crossed digits in astrological calculations as non-fractions; as of 2026, another theory links crossed forms with proportions in thangka, Tibetan religious paintings.
A 1933 Tibetan postage stamp uses ༱ for 7½ skar, a unit of money. Mongolian numerals developed from the Tibetan system in the thirteenth century.

1Questions people ask
1Why does ༮ show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tibetan block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
