tibetan digit half one

Tibetan half-digit one

43/211

༪ represents one-half in Tibetan numerals and can end a longer number as its fractional digit. On its own in an unrelated message, it gives no dependable emotional reading. The hooked half-digit series has competing interpretations, but they agree on this glyph's value.

What ༪ means

In Tibetan numerals, ༪ stands for one-half. It is the half-form paired with the ordinary Tibetan one.

Half-digits go at the far right of a longer number. Under the standard reading, ༤༪ means forty and a half, while ༤༬ means forty-two and a half.

What does it mean when someone sends ༪?

On its own, it has no dependable emotional reading. In a message without Tibetan numeric context, read it as an unfamiliar numeral and use the surrounding words to tell what the sender means.

In 2000, a Tibetan-speaking reader reported seeing ༪ in plans for the proportions of Buddhas, temples, and mandalas. A Nepalese pattern book made for use in Tibet from the 18th century also shows Tibetan numerals in Buddha-proportion diagrams. A related Tibetan half-eight appears on a postage stamp from 1933; that is a surviving example, not an origin date.

Is ༪ half of one or a slashed Tibetan one?

For ༪, both readings give one-half. The standard reading treats each hooked half-digit as its matching whole digit minus one-half. A Tibetan-art reading treats the slash as halving a measured dimension. These readings agree for this glyph but differ for neighboring forms.

The hook is part of the character. Font-dependent: a device without Tibetan font coverage may show a missing-glyph box, and supported fonts may draw the hook differently. Use ༪ for Tibetan numeral notation; for a general fraction, ½ is clearer.

A Tibetan fractional numeral; outside numeric context, it can look like an unexplained glyph.

Do not assume every hooked half-digit means half of the visible whole digit.

Is ༪ an emoji?

No. It is a Tibetan numeral written as text, rather than an emoji.

Does the slash mean half of the digit?

For this glyph, both readings yield one-half. The standard reading subtracts one-half from its matching whole digit; the art-measurement reading treats the hook as halving a measured dimension. Other half-digits can differ.

Why is ༪ a box on my screen?

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
