What ꗹ means
It represents the Vai syllable “de.”
This Vai syllabary writes syllables as signs, rather than using a separate sign for each consonant and vowel. ꗹ belongs inside Vai words; on its own, it has no established chat mood.
The Vai script emerged in Liberia around 1833 through Vai writer Mọmọlu Duwalu Bukẹlẹ and others. A surviving manuscript from the mid-1840s is among the earliest evidence; European observers described the script in 1849. It was created to write Vai and served correspondence and record-keeping, including among merchants and traders. Later Mende, Loma, Kpelle, and Bamum writing traditions drew on Vai’s syllabic organization. Possible Latin, Arabic, and Cherokee influences on Vai’s design remain debated.
Neutral in Vai writing; opaque as a standalone chat character.
