What ꗑ means
In standard Vai writing, ꗑ represents the syllable “do.”
The earliest known surviving Vai manuscript is a page by Fan Dawo Kelondo dated 1834. The script took shape around 1833 through Bukele and associates, and its forms changed before later standardization.
The Vai script was created for correspondence, ledgers, family histories, maxims, and records. It later influenced Mende, Loma, and Kpelle syllabaries; a proposed link to Cherokee remains debated, and resemblance alone does not prove influence.

Questions people ask
1Why does ꗑ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
