What ꘁ means
It spells one Vai syllable; context supplies its meaning. Mọmọlu Duwalu Bukẹlẹ and associates developed the script in Liberia in the early 1830s. A March 1834 missionary account links a dream to a plan for Vai people to write letters as at Monrovia. Arabic and Latin scripts were present in the region; a Cherokee influence remains conjectural. Early Vai texts also used word-signs, some still in use as of 2026.

Questions people ask
1Why does ꘁ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
