What ꗚ means
It writes the Vai syllable yɔ.
Developed in Liberia in the early 1830s, Vai writing is chiefly credited to Mọmọlu Duwalu Bukẹlẹ of Jondu; he later said a dream inspired it. An 1849 report preserved Vai text samples. It served letters and trade records; a 1962 University of Liberia conference tried to agree on a standard. Possible links to Arabic, Latin, North American Cherokee writing or older Vai picture-like signs remain disputed.
