What 󠄇 means
Alone, VS24 does nothing; after a registered base, it selects a glyph. This invisible, nonspacing selector follows a base character. The meaningful unit is the complete pair: a registered ideograph plus VS24. Each sequence identifies a specific form; VS24 is not a general style switch.
The ideographic-selector proposal began in 1997, was refined in 1998, and took its proposal form in 2003. An ideographic variation sequence (IVS) preserves exact glyph choices in plain text for personal names, place names, dictionaries, and historical descriptions.
The effect depends on both the base character and the registered collection. A regional or historical catalog may distinguish forms that another collection does not. VS24 therefore specifies a particular glyph choice in a sequence, not a universal regional form.
How do I type VS24?
Place VS24 after the exact base character in a registered pair. In JavaScript, use \u{E0107}; in Python, use \U000E0107; in HTML, use 󠄇 or 󠄇. These insert only the selector, not its base character or a visible glyph choice.
On Linux, press Ctrl+Shift+U, type E0107, then press Enter. Some CJK input methods offer an ideographic variant as a separate choice. If the exact glyph matters, use a known registered pair.
Technical and archival: it marks a request for one exact ideograph glyph.
Use VS24 only in a known registered base-plus-selector pair.

1Questions people ask
2Why does VS24 show as a box?
Usually a rendering failure. Unicode's intended fallback is to ignore an unsupported VS24 and show the base character; an incomplete rendering stack may expose an empty box instead.
Can VS24 change a Latin letter?
No. VS24 is for registered ideographic variation sequences; after a Latin letter, it has no defined VS24-specific glyph effect.

A visible symbol can contain several code points. JS .length counts UTF-16 units; UTF-8 counts bytes.
