What ᳒ means
It marks a wavering tone on the syllable or numeral beneath it.
In Sāmagāna, the sung recitation of Sāmaveda verses, prenkha directs the singer to shake the voice on the marked unit. The mark sits above a syllable or numeral, so its reading depends on that base; it is not standalone punctuation.
The performance notation also marks prolongation, pitch movement, and skipped tones. Practices differ among the Kauthuma, Rāṇāyanīya, and Jaiminīya recitation schools, and between spoken recitation and sung Sāmagāna.
Is ᳒ a macron?
No. ᳒ is a Vedic combining mark with its own role. Its line has angular ends; the generic combining macron is a different character. ᳒ normally renders above its base, and a font without Vedic mark support can misplace or detach it.
Specialist notation for Sāmavedic singing, not a general mark in Sanskrit prose.
Its bar-like shape can mislead: ᳒ marks vibrato in Sāmagāna, not a macron.

The generic combining macron is a separate character; ᳒ has angular ends and marks Sāmavedic vibrato.
Questions people ask
1Why does ᳒ show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Vedic Extensions block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
