What ᳑ means
It marks dīpta śruti, a fine pitch quality in Sāmagāna.
Sāmagāna is the sung recitation of the Sāmaveda; this shara sign gives the singer a pitch cue, not a direction to move.
A 1672 Sāmaveda songbook documents the broader practice of guiding chant with numerals and hand gestures. It shows how notation supported performance, but does not date this exact mark.
A 2015 Unicode editorial review compared passages written in Devanagari and Grantha, two scripts used for Sanskrit. The cup-shaped Grantha form supported the reading dīpta śruti rather than an earlier reading of a skipped note. The Unicode names list still includes the older alias, “Vaidika Svarita Urdhva Shara,” as of 2026.

᳑\1CD1Why is ᳑ a box on my screen?
fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
