What 𞋪 means
Say u through your nose; linguists write it /ũ/. “Uen” is the name for this single Wancho vowel.
Teacher Banwang Losu began the script after a school assignment showed Roman letters could not capture Wancho tones. Development ran from 2001 to 2012; pitch changes can distinguish words.
In a 2023 interview, Losu said its designs drew on Wancho tattoos, animals, birds, insects, and crafts. The script aimed to improve communication and preserve folktales and songs. As of 2026, some schools teach it; written Wancho more often uses Latin or Devanagari.
