What ꐖ means
It represents a Yi syllable; the word supplies its meaning.
“qyrx” is the Latin-letter label for this syllable, not an English gloss. Read ꐖ with neighboring syllables in a written Yi word. If it arrives alone, the intended word is unclear; ask the sender what Yi word or phrase they meant.
How did Yi writing reach this form?
This standard grew from older, locally varied Yi writing.
Yi texts served religious rites, healing, magic, and family histories. Bimo—Yi religious specialists—copied texts within priestly lineages. A bronze-bell inscription dated 1485 shows Yi writing in use by then; some undated manuscripts may be older.
The Liangshan standard was devised in 1974 and promulgated in 1980 to support literacy in the Liangshan variety of Yi. It adapted older Yi forms, not Han characters, and later appeared in schoolbooks, newspapers, public signs, official texts, literature, and new editions of ritual works. Yi writing traditions in Yunnan, Guizhou, and Guangxi are related but not interchangeable with this standard.

In code, use \uA416; in HTML, use ꐖ. These specify the character in those contexts; they are not pronunciation guides.
Neutral in Liangshan Yi writing; a single syllable may be opaque outside a Yi-language sentence.
If ꐖ arrives alone, ask what Yi word or phrase it belongs to.
