What ꏓ means
The surrounding syllables form the complete word.
Yi writing represents speech syllable by syllable. In the Latin-letter Nuosu transcription, “rep” labels this syllable; its final p marks a low tone that falls, rather than a final p consonant.
Older regional Yi traditions used the script for ritual, medical, magical, and genealogical texts. Its origins remain debated. The earliest surviving dated Yi monument is a bronze bell from 1485. The Liangshan standard was devised in 1974 and promulgated in 1980 to support literacy; it draws on older Yi traditions but does not represent all Yi writing traditions.
Ordinary within Yi writing; opaque on its own to readers who do not read the script.
