What 𞸴 means
It is a mathematical form of Arabic letter ش.
ش is shīn, pronounced roughly “sheen.” In right-to-left Arabic script, its initial form starts at a sequence’s right edge.
North African algebraic shorthand appears by the late 12th century. In the 15th century, the mathematician al-Qalaṣādī used ش, from shayʾ (“thing”), for the unknown quantity, the value to find. The practice predates him; mathematics in Arabic or Persian script preserves some letter forms as separate symbols, so this glyph has no fixed value outside a formula.
Math notation; out of place in ordinary Arabic prose.
For words, use ordinary ش.

1Why does 𞸴 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
