What ৮ means
The Bangla 8 writes the value eight.
In Bangla, ১৮ is eighteen and ৮০ is eighty; Assamese uses the same digit set.
Gupta numerals developed from Brahmi numerals, documented by the middle of the third century BCE. Bengal’s Gupta-period copper-plate records used numerals for era dates; Pala-period plates recorded rulers’ regnal years (years of their reign). Sena-period plates and manuscripts show forms close to modern Bangla numerals, but the exact development is hard to trace. The origins of individual Brahmi numeral forms remain unproved.
