An octant splits one character cell into eight parts, two across and four down. Kaypro's 1983 guide describes this grid; the Unicode mapping links this pattern to Kaypro's normal graphics byte 9F.
It extends older half-block and quadrant graphics. In 2021, Unicode's proposal preserved the set for conversion and emulators and noted requests from text-mode app developers.
