What does block octant 1235678 mean?
It fills seven of eight cells in a text-mode graphic tile.
An octant divides one character cell into two columns and four rows. This pattern fills cells 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8, leaving cell 4 empty. In Kaypro graphics, neighboring tiles act as pixels for rough text-mode pictures.
A Kaypro 10 user's guide from 1983 describes using that 24 grid as independently controlled pixels. Unicode—the shared character system that lets text travel between computers—gives this machine-specific drawing tile a portable text form for file conversion and emulation.

1Why does this block octant show as a box in my terminal?
The selected font may not include its glyph. As of September 2026, terminal support still differs: some emulators draw legacy-computing glyphs themselves, while other setups depend on font coverage.
