What means
A 24 tile with four cells filled. Semigraphics means making images with small blocks in text characters. Set these tiles side by side, and they form larger low-resolution images.
A 1983 Kaypro 10 manual describes each graphics character as eight addressable pixels in a cell four rows high and two columns wide. Unicode named these eight-part cells “octants” by analogy with “quadrants,” block mosaics in its character set since 1999. As of 2026, terminal image tools also use octants as tiny colored pixels; the set preserves old character data for conversion and emulation.

Questions people ask
1Why does show as a box?
Your font lacks this glyph; the box is a display fallback, not a different character. Microsoft added octant glyphs to Cascadia Code in April 2024. A font that includes the glyph can display the tile.
