What means
12578 lists the filled cells: 1, 2, 5, 7, and 8.
Semigraphics are text characters used as on/off patches. Software places patches cell by cell to draw low-resolution pictures.
A Kaypro drawing program used this two-by-four grid in 1984. Unicode’s 2021 proposal maps the fill to Kaypro reverse-video code 9C, where light and dark swap. “Quadrant” and “sextant” are earlier names for four- and six-cell mosaics; “octant” extends the same naming to eight cells.
Why might this text mosaic break?
A font must cover the glyph and align neighboring cells.
If the font lacks the character, the display may show a replacement box. Different cell proportions can still leave seams between adjoining tiles.

1Questions people ask
1Why does show as a box on some devices?
It is recent: Unicode added it in version 16.0 (2024), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
