What means
The name marks which four of the mosaic’s eight cells are filled. Its grid is two columns by four rows; the selected positions are 1, 2, 6, and 7.
The Kaypro 10, an early home computer, used 2-by-4 text cells as pixels; its 1983 guide shows them drawing screen graphics. Unicode names the eight-cell form “octant,” by analogy with four-part “quadrant” and six-part “sextant” mosaics.

Questions people ask
1Why does this character appear as a box?
A missing-glyph box means the selected font lacks this character. Cascadia Code added octant support in April 2024, but the app still has to use a font with that glyph.
