What means
It fills cells 1, 2, 7, and 8 in an eight-cell tile. An octant splits a character cell into two columns and four rows; the digits 1, 2, 7, and 8 mark which small blocks are lit. In Kaypro text graphics, neighboring cells acted like coarse pixels and assembled into a larger drawing.
A Kaypro 10 user guide from 1983 documents the grid. Its eighth dot needed inverse-video mode, which swaps text and background colors, plus a second byte (an eight-bit value).

Questions people ask
1Why does show as a box on some devices?
It is recent: Unicode added it in version 16.0 (2024), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
