Block Octant 1478

431/686

𜶴 is a pixel tile split into two columns and four rows, with cells 1, 4, 7, and 8 filled. Early computers used such mosaics to draw on text screens.

What 𜶴 means

It divides one character cell into eight smaller blocks. The digits 1, 4, 7, and 8 mark filled cells; neighboring tiles form images. Kaypro text files could contain 24 block graphics stored beyond ASCII, the basic Latin set. A 2021 Unicode proposal carried the grid forward for legacy data and emulation.
