Block Octant-2478

432/686

𜶵 is a text-graphics tile for low-resolution drawings. Kaypro semigraphics—drawing with blocks inside text—used each on-screen character space as a 24 pixel grid; this pattern fills positions 2, 4, 7, and 8.

What 𜶵 means

It marks part of a pixel grid inside ordinary text.

An octant splits one on-screen character space into two columns and four rows. The 1983 Kaypro 10 manual describes using those eight areas as pixels; programs combined them to draw in text. Here, the digits mark filled positions 2, 4, 7, and 8.

A 2021 Unicode proposal grouped octants with quadrant and sextant tiles, which split text spaces into four or six areas.
