What means
It is one tile in a larger text image. An octant is an eight-cell tile in two columns and four rows. Here, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8 mark the filled cells; keep neighboring patterns aligned so the pixel image holds together.
How did Kaypro use these tiles?
It supplied pixels inside a text character. A 1983 Kaypro 10 manual describes eight-pixel graphics cells, four high by two wide. A 2021 Unicode proposal maps this shape to code ED in Kaypro's normal character set; encoding legacy symbols helps preserve old data and support emulators.

Questions people ask
1Why does show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
