What means
It fills two of eight cells in a terminal mosaic.
The 1983 guide for Kaypro 10, a personal computer, shows how software plotted coarse pixels by filling cells in a 2-by-4 text grid. Unicode names similar 2-by-2 and 2-by-3 block grids “quadrants” and “sextants”; “octant” continues the pattern with eight parts.
Put beside other block patterns in a terminal window—a text screen arranged as a character grid—its cells can join into a larger picture or chart. Each tile works like a coarse pixel.

Questions people ask
1Why does show as a box on some devices?
It is recent: Unicode added it in version 16.0 (2024), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
