Block octant-678

454/686

𜷋 fills three of the eight cells in a two-column, four-row tile. In text graphics, similar tiles act as coarse pixels; early personal computers such as Kaypro used them to draw small pictures.

What 𜷋 means

The pattern fills cells 6, 7 and 8 of the eight-cell tile.

A 1983 Kaypro 10 manual documents semigraphics, a way to use character cells as a mosaic: software could switch individual cells on or off to draw small pictures on a text screen. A 2021 Unicode proposal sought to preserve these octant graphics from older computers; related sextant tiles use a 23 grid.

Questions people ask

1

Can every terminal display 𜷋?

No. As of September 2026, compatibility testing found octant mosaics in some terminal emulators and none in others; without a font or terminal that draws this glyph, it may appear as a missing-character box.
